Ahhhhh brunch in New York, it has to be done right? I bloody love a brunch, especially on a sunny sunday afternoon. That lovely little time between breakfast and lunch, that allows you to drink some fizz without being looked at like you need order a brown paper bag with that.
And where better to have brunch then this awesome town. I’d been wanting to try Ken & Cook in Nolita for quite some time, but never had a chance the past few times I’d visited. It was a stunning day, not a cloud in the sky. Shorts and t-shirts weather, us brits in the middle of September really couldn’t complain. We really took full advantage of this. We arrived around 12:30 and were super excited, as it had only just opened. It was nice and quiet, we totally bagged a table outside, looking out at the hustle and bustle. The Mr loves that kind of thing too. Bloody love New York.
Ken & Cook has a wonderful brunch menu, nicely laid out. With some nice options. But the unlimited bloody marys, mimosas or prosecco totally was our bag. We quickly ordered our staple. Eggs Benedict of course. And the mimosas began to flow. The fact it was unlimited was a bonus, as we sat and chatted the morning/afternoon away. Our glass was never empty and the staff were very attentive. It’s very easy to become complacent and inattentive when you’re not too busy but we couldn’t fault the great service here. I can imagine even when it is busy they are also spot on with service, you could just tell.
Our breakfast was soon ready, and boom. It.did.not.disappoint. Eggs benedict is generally my little test of a breakfast/brunch place. And K&C hits the nail on the head with this beast of a breakfast. Two VERY generous portions, with perfect hollandaise sauce. Paired really nicely with some potatoes and salad. Which makes it feel more like a lunch, I like that. The eggs were spot on. Super perfect and just how I like them, soft to break on the touch, but yet slightly hardened so there is no runny white, nothing worse in my humble opinion. So lots of hurrahs and my man could see my eyes light up like Christmas trees every time our mimosa was topped up. I’m a sucker for fizz.
Thank you Ken & Cook for this delicious food and for letting us drink you dry over the course of two hours. We left with happy bellies, and even better… tipsy by 2pm without spending the earth! How awesome is that!
